We realize this ambition by making our new location Rialto Silo as sustainable as possible. Rialto VU Griffioen has been realized under the second highest level of Breeam Excellent and Rialto Silo will be realized under the very highest sustainability level Breeam Outstanding. This means that sustainability is considered in every phase of development and realization in all aspects of construction, installations, energy use, interior design, and operation.
Rialto De Pijp
Rialto De Pijp is located in an old building on Ceintuurbaan in the Amsterdam Pijp. Nevertheless, Rialto has been working for over 15 years to make this location more sustainable where possible. For example, clock thermostats have been installed throughout the building, we manage energy use efficiently through a heat recovery unit, regular maintenance is performed on both the building and equipment to extend their lifespan, fixtures have been converted to LED lighting, waste is of course separated, and we work with local suppliers who organize their transport with small electric trucks.
Sustainability is also highly valued in our hospitality services, and we select our range of coffee, beer, and treats based on fair trade and organic products. Additionally, we use organic cleaning agents. Rialto has had an assessment conducted by the Groene Grachten with a positive outcome.
Moreover, our programming contributes to awareness around sustainability with special programs that focus on environmental themes.
Rialto VU Griffioen
Rialto VU Griffioen is located in the New University Building of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam; a sustainable building that aims to meet the criteria for the Breeam Excellent certification. Sustainable measures have been included from the start of the design and further developed with the future residents. This creates a livable, energy-efficient, and durable environment. With the idea that plants and animals are co-users of the area, the building features a flora and fauna roof that enriches nature. Maximum sustainable building materials, natural energy sources (heat and cold storage), energy-efficient light sources, and energy-efficient equipment such as elevators, escalators, fixtures, and water-saving sanitary facilities make the building optimally sustainable.
Additionally, films are screened using sustainable, energy-efficient laser projectors.
