Wild Horse Nine

Not long before the Chilean coup d’état in 1973, the washed-up CIA agents Chris and Lee are sent by their boss MJ from the Chilean capital, Santiago, to Easter Island, a place that the terminally ill Chris had always wanted to visit. Now that he still has time, he also wants to publish his memoirs, but MJ is determined to put a stop to that; he orders Lee to prevent it at all costs. But Lee isn’t particularly keen on the idea. During their stay, the two come to the conclusion that it is easier to kill someone than to forge a genuine bond with them.

British director Martin McDonagh has already built up a formidable reputation with films such as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin – films for which he also wrote the screenplays himself – a reputation he fully lives up to with this black comedy full of razor-sharp dialogue. And this is partly thanks to the outstanding performances by, amongst others, John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell and Steve Buscemi.
