Frederika, from Sweden, moves to Italy and ends up in a class at school with nothing but boys. She becomes close friends with three of her classmates, but one of them has stronger feelings for her.
Summer 2007: her father has found a new job in Trieste, Italy, which means that Frederika, a Swedish schoolgirl, has to move there too. There, she ends up at a technical secondary school in a class made up entirely of boys. Fred, as she introduces herself, immediately becomes the centre of attention – and not just because she is so intelligent. She soon strikes up a friendship with a group of fellow students: Antero, Mitis and Pasini. They go from one party to the next, and their friendship is close-knit. When Antero confesses to Fred one day that he has deeper feelings for her – feelings she reciprocates – the balance within the group is disrupted.

In 1929, the Italian writer Giani Stuparich published the short, autobiographical story Un anno di scuola (A Year at School) about Edda Marty, the only girl in a class full of boys. Laura Samani adapted it for the screen, doing so with nuance, emotional depth and authenticity. Starring Stella Wendick in the lead role.
