The Incomer

Isla and her brother Sandy live on a remote Scottish island. Their life consists of telling stories about their ancestors and catching seagulls for food. They are the island’s only inhabitants and would very much like to keep it that way, because if there’s one thing they hate, it’s ‘incomers’ – people from the mainland who will destroy everything of value the moment they set foot on the island; at least, that’s what their father has always claimed. One day, however, such an ‘incomer’ does arrive: civil servant Daniel, who comes to tell them that the authorities want them off the island. But Isla and Sandy won’t budge.

In this feature film debut, which he wrote himself, Scottish director Louis Paxton blends comedy with Scottish mythology and a touch of Yorgos Lanthimos. It is a story about introverted people and their fear of an unknown, potentially threatening outside world. Starring Gayle Rankin, Grant O’Rourke and Domhnall Gleeson in the lead roles.
