Director Esteban Martínez is as notorious as he is famous; notorious for his turbulent past, marked by alcohol and violence, and famous for having built up an impressive filmography. After spending thirteen years abroad, he returns to Spain for a new film project, and to see his estranged daughter Emilia again. She is trying to build a career as an actress, without much success. She is happy to finally see her father again, but at the same time she can barely hide her anger and disappointment towards him. It is therefore a huge surprise when he asks her to play the lead role in his new film and she accepts the offer. On set, many old wounds resurface.
Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen co-wrote this intense father-daughter drama with Isabel Peña, with whom he also collaborated on his best-known film: Las bestias. Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo portray the father and daughter whose relationship is defined by love and manipulation.
