It’s World Pride in Amsterdam! If that sounds like your sort of thing, be sure to add this screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on 7 August to your diary. On arrival, you’ll be treated to a welcome drink, but there’s plenty more in store that evening – things are sure to get festive once the film’s over! The evening will be hosted by drag king Mannish Pixel.

Missed out on a drink? Don’t worry, because the film will be screened again on 21 August, and visitors will be treated to a welcome drink on that occasion too.

A hugely popular Australian cult film about drag queens Mitzi del Bra, Bernadette Bassenger, and Felicia Jollygoodfellow, who travel from Sydney to distant Alice Springs in a pink bus.
The “general public” usually pays little attention to films centered on the LGBTQ community. That is not the case with this Australian comedy, which was a huge hit with both film critics and the general public, as evidenced by the large number of viewers and the many awards the film received, including the Oscar for Best Costume Design. In 2006, a musical adaptation of Priscilla was staged, further cementing its cult status.

Sydney-based Mitzi del Bra (Hugo Weaving), the drag alias of Anthony Belrose, is invited to perform his drag show at the Lasseters Hotel Casino Resort in the remote town of Alice Springs. His colleagues, drag queens Bernadette Bassenger (Terence Stamp) and Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Guy Pearce), go with him. The long and nerve-wracking journey, straight through the desert, is undertaken in a pink-painted bus, which is christened Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
