Sunny Dancer

Seventeen-year-old Ivy has cancer, but fortunately she is in remission. Yet she is angry, withdrawn and bitter. To make matters worse, as she sees it, her parents Karen and Bob have signed her up for a Children Run Free Camp, nicknamed ‘chemo camp’, intended for young people with cancer. She finds the idea dreadful, but goes anyway, albeit very reluctantly. Once there, she slowly but surely comes out of her shell and befriends a few of the other participants. A special bond develops between her and the dreamy, vulnerable Jake. She discovers that all these people, just like herself, want to make the most of life, because you never know how much time you have left.

When director Georges Jaques was 15, his mother was admitted to hospital with breast cancer. In that hospital, he also met young cancer patients, and he has incorporated those experiences into this drama, which he wrote and produced himself. He does so with a great deal of humour.
