In 1811, Sense and Sensibility, A Novel, in three volumes, by a Lady was published. That ‘Lady’ was the British author Jane Austen. It is a story about love, sisterhood and how to deal with problems. Austen shows that this can be done using reason (sense) or, conversely, emotion (sensibility). This still-popular novel has been adapted for the screen many times; British director Georgia Oakley has done so again in her second feature film, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, amongst others, in the lead roles.
England, early 19th century: the wealthy Mr Dashwood lives on a beautiful country estate with his second wife and their three daughters, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret. When he dies suddenly, the family faces hardship, as the law dictates that all his possessions pass to his son John from his first marriage. The widow and her three daughters are forced to move. It marks the beginning of turbulent times, full of domestic worries and romantic entanglements.
