Twin sisters Delphine and Solange, played by sisters Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac, dream of the ideal lover. They do exist, but you have to spot them.
Following the huge success of Les parapluies de Cherbourg, director Jacques Demy made another musical three years later, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, in which he pays a colourful, cheerful and affectionate tribute to the classic Hollywood musical. As in the former film, the lead role is played by Catherine Deneuve, alongside her sister Françoise Dorléac. Musical legend Gene Kelly and the French star actor Michel Piccoli also make an appearance. The music is once again by Michel Legrand.

Twin sisters Delphine (Deneuve) and Solange (Dorléac) live in Rochefort, a small town on the Bay of Biscay. Delphine is a dance teacher; Solange gives piano lessons. The two dream of a life in Paris, but above all hope to meet their ideal partner soon. Maxence, a sailor, painter and poet also living in Rochefort, and the successful American composer Andy Miller seem destined to be that ideal love, but first they need to meet each other. When the funfair arrives in town, new opportunities present themselves.
