Killer Constable - Rumble in Hong Kong

A considerable sum of money has been stolen from the imperial treasury. Liu Jing Tian, head of security at the Forbidden City, is tasked with finding the five thieves. Liu passes the assignment on to the incorruptible police commissioner Leng Tian-ying, a ruthless man who kills criminals without mercy – a reputation that has earned him the nickname ‘the killer constable’. Leng accepts the assignment and, together with his men, begins the investigation. It proves to be a difficult task, as he is confronted with ambushes, double-crosses and betrayal. Eventually, he discovers who is behind the theft, but he pays a heavy price for that discovery.

As befits a Shaw Brothers film, this crime drama is a treat for anyone who enjoys spectacular fight and action scenes. However, director Kuei Chih-hung also shows how an entire class of poor Han Chinese is oppressed and exploited by the greedy and corrupt Manchu ruling class. It is a story about the cruelty of the class struggle, according to film historian David Bordwell.
