Filmmaker Déni Pitsaev’s family once fled the violence of the war in Chechnya to settle in Georgia. Déni himself grew up in France and still lives in Paris. His mother hopes that one day he will settle in Georgia and has therefore bought him a plot of land where he can build a lovely house for himself and his future family. But he is unsure, so he travels to Georgia to see the place for himself. Once there, he is welcomed with open arms, but the question on everyone’s lips is: when is he finally going to get married?

In this beautifully crafted journey in search of his roots and his true self, Pitsaev explores themes such as individual freedom, feeling at home and gender roles. He does so with such subtlety that the silences are often more telling than what is actually said. This personal, intelligently told account won the award for Best Documentary at the recent Cannes Film Festival.
