Pass the Popcorn is coming back to the Rialto! Once again, Rudy and Yvette are joining forces for the platform created for the BIPOC nerds amongst us, so we can discuss epic films and series from the worlds of fantasy, science fiction, horror, superheroes and everything in between – freely and with great enjoyment. Why are the wigs in THOTD so bad? Will Idris Elba ever be our James Bond? Is NOPE about your 15 minutes of fame? And let’s be honest, Halle? She’s the best mermaid ever, isn’t she?

Through specials, premieres, events and talks, these two creatives will create a space where it’s perfectly fine to spend hours discussing topics like these. Join these Blerds!

San Francisco: Corvette, Mariah and Sade from the Velvet Gang steal clothes from Christie Smith’s Metro Designers fashion chain. And that’s not all…
San Francisco: Corvette, Mariah and Sade make up the Velvet Gang, a gang that mainly targets the Metro Designers fashion chain, run by fashion designer Christie Smith. To make ends meet, they steal clothes from the shops and then resell them at a hefty discount. One day, Corvette – who also designs her own clothes and admires Christie’s work – sneaks into Christie’s office and overhears her talking about suits worth $100,000, and this marks the beginning of a whole series of bizarre events in which a mysterious man with a pinky ring (a demon?), poor working conditions at the Metro Designers’ factory in China and teleportation machines all play a major role.

In his second feature film, which he also wrote himself, director Boots Riley delivers an imaginative and extravagant comedy, whilst also weaving in a fair amount of social commentary. Keke Palmer, Naomie Ackie and Taylour Paige bring the Velvet Gang to life, whilst Demi Moore plays the role of Christie Smith.
