Where do we belong, if we feel like a stranger everywhere? The Croatian-Dutch documentary-maker Tatjana Bozic explores this question in this tragicomic documentary about migration, motherhood and ingrained family patterns of which we are barely aware. She does so from her own perspective, as she sees herself as a citizen of the world – someone who, therefore, feels at home nowhere. She has lived in many different places: in Bosnia, Croatia, the Soviet Union, London, back to Croatia, and finally ending up in Amsterdam – yet even there she cannot bring herself to feel Dutch or to behave like a Dutch person.
She is determined to break this cycle and, armed with her camera, travels through Europe to discover what it means to ‘feel at home somewhere’. She meets family and friends from the past, people who have also settled somewhere and who may or may not have made a life for themselves there. When she sees her father again, she finds an answer she hadn’t expected.
