Zheng Bi-qiu, the governor’s son, is kidnapped. It’s time for Golden Swallow, the governor’s daughter, to spring into action. She is a highly skilled swordswoman. Starring Chen Pei-pei.
Zheng Bi-qiu, the governor’s son and a magistrate in his own right, is kidnapped by the ruthless bandit Jade-Faced Tiger. The latter demands that Zheng release his captured master. But Zheng is a man of principle and refuses. Tiger now turns to Zheng’s father: he must release his master within five days, or his son will die. Now the governor’s daughter, Golden Swallow – a highly skilled swordswoman – springs into action. Disguised as a man, she sets out to free her brother. But Tiger’s men prove to be formidable opponents. Fortunately, she receives help from the beggar Drunken Cat.

This film is regarded by many as one of the best wuxia films, the genre in which all disciplines of Chinese martial arts are featured. It was therefore a huge success, with both film critics and the public responding enthusiastically. The film also marked the breakthrough for Cheng Pei-pei, the actress who played Golden Swallow. She would go on to appear in dozens of films thereafter.
