A story about friendship and displacement centring on Didi, a Chinese woman who, together with her friends – including Amy – runs a massage parlour in Queens. A tragedy changes everything.
Didi, a Chinese migrant woman from Queens, New York, has only just met Cheung, but she is head over heels in love and is already fantasising about a future together. After their first night of love, she gets back to business as usual the next morning. She opens the massage parlour, which she runs together with three other Chinese migrant women, including her close friend Amy. It is a somewhat run-down parlour, not unlike the clients who visit the business. At first glance, the women seem to lead a carefree existence, but the work takes its toll on them, especially in a place so far from home, in a country they do not fully understand. A devastating tragedy during Chinese New Year makes everything even more complicated.

In this melancholic feature film debut, which she wrote herself, director Constance Tsang tells a story of displacement and friendship, of a life in which dreams exist but rarely come true. Award-winning at the Cannes Film Festival, 2024, amongst others.
