Carlobianchi and Doriano, both in their fifties, have seen better days. They once made a tidy sum from a scam, but there isn’t much of that money left. Now they are waiting for the return of their friend and accomplice Genio, who had to flee from the police after their successful scam and ended up in Argentina. He has hidden part of the loot somewhere. In the meantime, the pair do little else but drink. Somewhere along the way, they meet Giulio, a shy architecture student who is very unhappy in love. Somewhat reluctantly, Giulio joins the two drinking mates and heads to Venice for one ‘last’ alcoholic treat. The trip will change his outlook on love.
The screenplay, co-written by director Francesco Sossai, gave the cast plenty of scope for improvisation and spontaneity. This resulted in this charming and tragicomic road movie, in which three distinct anti-heroes wander through the countryside around Venice whilst drinking.
